Funny thing - the feeling’s mutual.

Perhaps it was a great radio speech, but watching on television, I was distracted by his head going back and forth from one teleprompter screen to the other, and never appearing to look at the camera. It shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all, but for a leader who needs to connect with English Canadians, it was something that helps tarnish that first impression.

Harper was the wrong choice last time and remains the wrong choice for today and tomorrow.

Wow, cue the violins.

What about the day after tomorrow? Is he OK then?

Dion is truly a class act — and what he’s saying about being okay with being an underdog isn’t campaign ad “schtick.” I had the chance to ask him a question at a public event in Peterborough this summer. I thanked him for hanging tough in the face of unprecedented personal attacks (over a year’s worth of highly negative attack ads outside an election campaign - a Canadian first, perhaps?) and I asked him how he managed to keep going. He said it wasn’t difficult. He felt that he had to do what he was doing — to get a very different vision of Canada in front of the Canadian people. That’s what gave him the energy and the resilience to go on day after day.

I have a huge amount of respect for the man. It’s becoming clearer and clearer why Harper decided he had to go out of the gate with the “not a leader” attack ads, right after Dion was elected — and why he’s now having his campaign ads attack Dion for being “too intellectual.” His visionary leadership style (as opposed to bullying leadership style) and his willingness to be ruled by reason rather than rhetoric is so unlike Harper’s — and it is much more “Canadian.” Dion also shows a modern leadership style — leadership via consultation and consensus (not leadership via fear and dictatorship).

Dion has so much to offer Canada. Let’s hope the average Canadian voter has the wisdom to look past the stereotypes created by the attack ads to see what the man is really all about.

What we have is a competent boring Prime Minister going up against a inarticulate nerdy Liberal leader and a flashy “I intend to apply for this job” used car NDP salesman with his permanant smile.

I like Harpers odds at re-election.

Hey mike. go ahead and attack my intelligence. i know I am only a lowly truck driver. I know I dont have a degree is political science but most people dont. and to be honest I dont want one. the well placed ya right was my way of being extremely sarcastic. I did notice that you only attacked my sarcasm and not any of my points whether they are in your opinion or mine right or wrong!! That speaks volumes..its kinds like attacking people who post on here with handles..instead of a real name..nevermind that they have a real point..just attack them because..deflect the fact that you dont have a real argument to the point.
